About Silver Gene Laboratories: Precision Oncology Diagnostics

Silver Gene Laboratories operates as a specialized clinical diagnostic framework dedicated to advancing precision oncology through targeted pharmacogenomics (PGx). Our objective is to equip clinicians with definitive, germline genetic insights that help identify how inherited genetic variation may affect a patient’s metabolism and tolerability of systemic cancer therapies.

Our focus is rooted in assisting the mitigation of severe adverse drug reactions (ADRs), reducing risks associated with toxic oncology-related hospitalizations, and facilitating highly individualized, data-driven treatment cycles. By mapping validated genetic variants that govern drug-metabolizing enzymes, transport mechanisms, and cellular toxicity risks, we transform complex genomic data into actionable clinical guidance for frontline oncology teams.

Our Core Operational Focus

  • Oncology-Specific Pharmacogenomics: We analyze validated germline alleles with established consensus guidelines (such as CPIC and PharmGKB) that impact cytotoxic chemotherapies, topoisomerase inhibitors, and essential oncology supportive care medications.

  • Clinical Toxicity Mitigation: We focus on pre-treatment and concurrent screening to help clinicians predict and mitigate severe, treatment-related toxicities, guiding efforts to reduce treatment interruptions, avoidable dose reductions, and emergency clinical interventions.

  • Oncology Workflow Integration: We deliver streamlined, pathologist-reviewed diagnostic reports engineered for seamless execution within active clinical practices, translating evidence-based genetic guidelines into clear, actionable data that informs therapeutic decision-making.

Clinical Leadership & Laboratory Standards

From our high-complexity facility in Frisco, Texas, Silver Gene Laboratories operates under complete CLIA certification and CAP accreditation, processing all specimens utilizing validated Thermo Fisher microarray infrastructure. Our molecular testing framework is founded and directed by Dennis G. Hooper, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Hooper is a Pathologist with decades of leadership in clinical immunology, pathology, and microbiology. A retired United States Navy Captain, Dr. Hooper previously served as the Chairman of Pathology at the Naval Hospital San Diego for six years, Ancillary Service Director at the Naval Hospital San Diego, and Specialty Advisor to the Navy Surgeon General.

Under his rigorous medical direction, our laboratory adheres to stringent federal proficiency testing and quality control protocols. While traditional genomic testing focuses primarily on somatic tumor mutations, we believe the complete execution of precision medicine includes evaluating the host's constitutional metabolism. Silver Gene Laboratories exists to help anchor that metabolic reality directly into standard oncology care, ensuring safer chemotherapy deployment under the highest standards of laboratory compliance.
